i lose speed going down the highway and then regain could it be the fuel pump?

Im leaning toward a combination of a fuel filter my self, the fuel pump can be part of the problem as well, If you use a lot of cheap gas, it has contanimants as well as water in it, over time this can leave hardened deposits that clog up a fuel system over time. I would change the fuel filter first, then fill it up with chevron super unleaded with techron , check the oil, change that if needed, and take a nice long drive down the freeway at high spped and see if I can burn any of that crap out of there. Change your spark plugs and your fuel filter and put in a fuel injector cleaner done and done. fuel filter man. it's the cheepest start to you problem.

Chevrolet . Chevy Lumina roughly 1994 Lower Gasket antifreeze leak?

Chevy Lumina roughly 1994 Lower Gasket antifreeze leak? I'm a little confused. My friend has a Chevy Lumina and it's running a bit erratically and is sucking down coolant by the gallon. She brought it to an auto shop and the guy started doing an oil change and said a lot of coolant is in the oil and that the lower engine gasket is show and if she wants her car fixed then she needs a new engine. She had the head gasket replaced last year, and it started acting up a few months later and she parked it until spring. I've never run into a lower engine gasket, but I see them available for purchase. I can't find any instructions or anyone online talking about them which seems odd. Do they exist, are they called something else? Also, is it possible this is the head gasket leaking again? When the car is running about 1 gallon of coolant leaks per 20 minutes of driving. The mechanic didn't do any disassembly but said he only seeks coolant in the lower engine oil and not the upper and I have no idea how he's making that statement. Seems a bit off to me, but I'm somewhat new to this game. car insurance.

Chevrolet . How to Check a Valve Spring

Inspecting the valve springs on your car is necessary for a complete cylinder head overhaul. Bad or worn out springs will wear valve stems and guides rapidly. If the springs have compressed after years of use, they may cause the valves to clatter, limit your engine rpm's, and even lead to valve-train damage. These simple tests will help you determine whether new spring valves are necessary before you finish your cylinder head overhaul.
Difficulty:Moderately Easy
Instructions Things You'll Need
Combination square Feeler gauge Straightedge Vernier caliper Valve spring load tester Vise

Step by Step :
1
Check the valve spring for squareness. This will let you know if the spring can load the retainers evenly: An uneven load will wear the valve stem and guide. Set the spring on a perfectly flat surface. Place a combination square against the spring and rotate the spring as you check for any gaps around it. Measure any gap with a feeler gauge. If any gap is above 1/16 inch, replace the spring. Check the rest of the valve springs.
2
Inspect the valve spring's free height. This inspection lets you know whether any of the springs has become too tired or has been affected by engine high temperatures, increasing its normal free height. Line up the springs next to each other in a perfectly flat surface. Place the edge of a straightedge on top of the springs. Measure any gaps between the straightedge and the top of the spring with a feeler gauge. If any of the springs' height varies by more than 0.0625 inches in relation to the rest, replace the springs.
3
Measure the spring free height. This check should be used along with the inspection you made on step 2 to decide whether springs replacement is necessary. Using a vernier caliper, measure the spring free height and compare your number with the specifications provided in your vehicle service manual. A variation of 1/16 inch may be within a reasonable limit unless you are going to use your vehicle mainly on heavy traffic, in mountainous terrain or to pull a trailer. Measure the rest of the springs.
4
Check the springs' load-producing capacity. When compressed to a certain height, a valve spring should have the strength to carry a proportional load. This characteristic is measured by compressing the spring against a valve-spring load tester in a vise. Compress the spring to the installed height specified in your vehicle service manual while reading the load tester. You should get a load capacity between 76 and 84 pounds or close to it. Replace the springs if necessary.
Tips & Warnings
You may rent or buy a valve-spring load tester at your local auto parts or automotive tools and equipment store. If you cannot find a load tester, your local machine shop may take this measurement for you. Always check your measurements against those given by your vehicle manufacturer. You may find this and other specifications on your vehicle's service manual, which you can buy at your local auto parts store or consult for free at your local public library.

Chevrolet . How to Remove a Valve Stem

A conventional valve stem on a tire is a metal valve that can sustain air pressure. It is covered with rubber to protect it and to help seal the valve stem hole of the rim. Exposed to the extreme conditions in the environment, the rubber of the valve stems can deteriorate over time. Tire manufacturers recommend replacing the valve stems every time a tire is changed. There are different types of valve stems which require different removal procedures.
Difficulty:Moderate
Instructions Things You'll Need
Tire machine
Tire stem puller
Shop rag
Tire core removal tool
Ratchet and socket set
PliersHow to Remove a Valve Stem

Step by Step :
1
Remove the valve stem cap and then use the valve stem core removal tool to remove the core. Turn the core counterclockwise until the core can be extracted. Tires with air pressure in them will purge the valve core outward, so apply caution and wear safety glasses.
2
Determine if the valve stem is a Tire Pressure Monitoring Sensor (TPMS). Most vehicles manufactured in 2007 up until now have TPMS sensors. A hex head retaining nut will be present, holding the valve stem of the sensor in position on the wheel. If you notice a hex head nut over the valve stem, use the ratchet and a socket to remove the nut by turning it counterclockwise until you can extract it from the valve stem. Poke the TPMS sensor into the valve stem hole of the rim so you do not damage the sensor while breaking down the tire to extract the sensor. If it is not a TPMS sensor valve stem, skip this step.
3
Break down the tire from the rim (if you have not already done so). If you're extracting a TPMS sensor break down the tire from both sides of the rim and remove just the top tire bead from the rim to remove the sensor. If you're removing just a conventional valve stem, break down the top of the tire only if desired and press down on the rubber sidewall. For the easiest access to remove the valve stem, completely remove the tire from the rim.
4
Inspect the top and bottom of the valve stem. There are different types. Some high pressure valve stems may be held in place to the rim much like a TPMS sensor, but without the sensor attached underneath. Them remove this type of valve stem, hold the round base of the stem from under the rim with a pair of pliers to hold it stationary while removing the nut from the top valve stem with the ratchet and a socket.
5
Screw a valve stem puller onto the stem of a conventional valve stem. Place a shop rag on the edge of the rim to protect it from getting scratched by the valve stem puller. Use the puller as a lever and pry the valve stem out of its seated position in the rim. Sometimes you will incur damage to the valve stem, but anytime one is removed, it should be replaced with a new one.
6
Make sure replacement valve stems are seated properly in the valve stem hole of the rim. Wipe the top of the rim near the valve stem hole of any dirt, mud, or other debris.
7
Replace the valve stem by reversing the procedure of how you removed the type you have on the rim. Conventional valve stems can be reseated by using the tire stem puller until the stem achieves its seated position. TPMS sensors should not be installed back onto the rim until the tire has been replaced on the rim. Otherwise damage could be incurred to the sensor when trying to align the bead of the tire onto the rim.

Here's where I get into the characteristics of the different types of ignition systems to be found on various vehicles. You can read about all of them or go directly to the parts found on your vehicle's system and skip the others. The distributor The distributor gets the voltage from the coil and distributes it to each spark plug in turn. It also contains the rotor and, on older cars, a set of breaker points, and a condenser. The following sections give you a closer look at the parts of a distributor. The distributor caff

The distributor cap (shown in Figure 5-13) sits atop the distributor to protect the parts inside from the elements. Current enters and leaves the distributor via the coil and spark plug wires that run through holes in the cap. Chapter 12 shows you how to remove the distributor cap so that you can get a closer look at what's inside. It also tells you which types of distributors should not be tampered with. Non-electronic Electronic The rotor The rotor (see Figure 5-14) sits atop the distributor shaft inside the distributor. As the distributor shaft turns, the rotor rotates with it and points toward the terminal at the base of each spark plug wire so that each plug can fire in the correct order. For example, when it's pointing at the terminal of the wire leading to your Number 1 spark plug, it directs the current to that spark plug at precisely the time when the fuel/air mixture in the Number 1 cylinder is waiting to be exploded.
